General about IEC:

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is an international standards organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies – collectively known as “electrotechnology”. IEC standards cover a vast range of technologies from power generation, transmission and distribution to home appliances and office equipment, semiconductors, fiber optics, batteries, solar energy, nanotechnology and marine energy as well as many others. The IEC also manages four] global conformity assessment systems that certify whether equipment, system or components conform to its international standards.

IEC Standards play a very important role in familiarizing and testing different switchgears.

Standards are an important source for understanding, testing, and educating a variety of switchgears.

About IEC 62271-1:

One of the most important and common standards is related to switchgears is IEC 622271-1. (part 1 from IEC 622271 series)

This standard explained about High voltage switchgear and controlgear: Common specifications for alternating current switchgear and controlgear.

International Standard IEC 62271-1 has been prepared by technical committee 17(High voltage switchgear and controlgear).

This standard applies to all high-voltage switchgear and controlgear except as otherwise specified in the relevant IEC standards for the particular type of switchgear and controlgear.

IEC 62271-1 applies to AC switchgear and controlgear designed for indoor or outdoor installation and for operation at service frequencies up to and including 60 Hz and having rated voltages above 1000 V.
This document applies to all high-voltage switchgear and controlgear except as otherwise specified in the relevant IEC standards for the particular type of switchgear and controlgear.
