Toshiba has revealed plans to invest JPY 10 billion in order to expand the production capacity of power transmission and distribution equipment in India

Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited (TTDI) has announced plans to increase its manufacturing capacity of power transformers and distribution transformers by approximately 1.5 times compared to FY2023.

Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India)’s investment in the Indian power industry:

This expansion is in response to the growing global demand for Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) equipment, particularly in light of the global trend of renewable energy expansion. Over three years, from FY2024 to FY2026, Toshiba Group will invest approximately JPY 10 billion in Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems to support this capacity expansion.

He stated “Toshiba is a leading global supplier of T&D equipment for both conventional and renewable energy sources. With India serving as a manufacturing and export hub for TTDI’s T&D equipment, the company has successfully exported Indian-made transformers to more than 50 countries”. The new investment will further strengthen TTDI’s commitment to the Make-in-India and Export-from-India initiatives, enhancing operational efficiency, speeding up time-to-market, and supporting the expansion of the company’s business in India and abroad.

Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) is set to boost its assembly and test line capacity for Distribution transformers and Power transformers for the Transmission Grids and Distribution Networks through this investment.

The upgraded testing capacity for power transformers will serve as a significant improvement, specifically aimed at expanding exports of power transformers and meeting the high demand for 400kV / 765kV transformers in the Indian market.

The expansion of Distribution Transformers is primarily focused on establishing a cutting-edge facility for CRGO (Cold Rolled grain-oriented) steel processing to enhance vertical integration, leading to reduced process lead time, and improved Quality, Safety, and 5S. Furthermore, Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India)plans to construct a new manufacturing facility for surge arresters in the first half of FY2024, with the products expected to hit the market by the second half of the year.

TTDI leverages cutting-edge technology and streamlined processes, along with seamless background integration, top-notch manufacturing facilities, extensive production capabilities, and a highly proficient workforce to produce top-of-the-line T&D equipment manufactured in India.
