GE Vernova Inc. has announced the enhancement of its Electrification facility in Berlin with the inauguration of a High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Competence Center.
This center is set to pioneer advanced technologies aimed at accelerating the energy transition by bolstering grid stability and facilitating the integration of increased renewable energy sources throughout Germany and Europe. It will also provide support for HVDC initiatives on a global scale.
HVDC systems play a crucial role in fulfilling electrification and decarbonization objectives. The HVDC center will focus on the development and testing of technologies that allow for the efficient transmission of large amounts of power over extensive distances or from offshore connections, streamline the incorporation of renewable energy into existing power grids, and interlink various HVDC transmission systems.
The establishment of the HVDC Competence Center elevates the Berlin facility to a central role within GE Vernova’s Electrification Systems operations in Europe. It enhances GE Vernova’s ability to cater to both regional and international demands in Grid Solutions, Power Conversion, Solar, and Storage, thereby addressing the increasing Electrification backlog.

In alignment with its expansion strategy in Germany, GE Vernova anticipates the creation of approximately 500 new highly skilled positions for engineers, project managers, and various support personnel in Berlin between 2023 and the conclusion of 2025. Job openings are scheduled to be announced quarterly, with 60 positions currently available and an additional 200 expected to be posted. These positions will play a crucial role in promoting electrification technologies and strengthening the company’s engineering and technical expertise, thereby establishing the Berlin Electrification facility as a significant player in the advancement of energy solutions throughout the region.
