ABB has inaugurated a state-of-the-art €20 million injection molding manufacturing facility in Evergem, Belgium, near Ghent.
This new site has been established to cater to the increasing demand for secure, intelligent, and sustainable electrification solutions in Europe.
The advanced plant has been designed to comply with the latest energy-efficiency requirements by incorporating cutting-edge injection molding machines, digital technologies, and automation solutions.
It replaces a pre-existing facility that became a part of ABB following its acquisition of GE Industrial Solutions in 2018. The facility will primarily focus on producing power distribution enclosures, which function as protective casings for electrical distribution components like circuit breakers, fuses, switches, and meters.
These enclosures ensure the safe distribution, metering, and control of electricity in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
The projected growth of the global electrical enclosure market from $7.42 billion in 2024 to $13.15 billion by 2032 is driven by rising demand for new constructions, the upgrading of current buildings with enhanced and dependable electrical systems, and advancements in electrical distribution.

The new Evergem site forms part of ABB‘s Mission to Zero™ initiative, which aims to significantly decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ABB sites. Additionally, it supports customers in reducing their own GHG emissions by providing a decarbonization roadmap for implementation.
This initiative is projected to result in a reduction of over 6,700 tonnes of CO2e emissions and more than 9,400 MWh of energy consumption annually compared to the previous facility’s 2019 levels. These measures are expected to lead to approximately €2.5 million in energy cost savings each year.
The new Evergem site is part of ABB’s Mission to Zero™ initiative
The site is equipped with energy-efficient machinery and is anticipated to generate 10 percent of its required energy through 1,330 on-site rooftop solar panels, with the remaining energy sourced from certified green energy supplies.
Furthermore, the implementation of LED lighting, electric vehicle (EV) chargers, heat pumps, cooling water circuits, and a new air ventilation plant all contribute to the reduction of energy usage and carbon emissions.

The Evergem facility will consistently oversee and enhance energy consumption, utilizing ABB’s proprietary digital tools like ABB Ability™ Building Analyzer which monitors building data and utilities in real-time, offering practical insights to improve energy efficiency.
Along with the incorporation of green energy and heat pumps, this also aids in decreasing energy usage and CO2 emissions. Further digital technologies, such as a building management system, will be implemented in the upcoming months to bolster the accomplishment of energy efficiency.
