HD Hyundai Electric has successfully obtained its inaugural order for a 72.5kV SF₆-Free GIS in Denmark

Hillerød, Denmark – A quiet revolution is taking place in Denmark’s energy sector. HD Hyundai Electric has secured its first 72.5kV SF₆-Free Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) order in the country, a project that will reshape the Trollesgård substation and set a new benchmark for sustainable power infrastructure. The deal, signed with NEXEL A/S, a subsidiary of the Andel Group, is more than a contract—it’s a statement about the future of energy in Europe.

Breaking Away from SF₆:

For decades, SF₆ gas has been the industry standard in high-voltage switchgear. It’s effective, but it comes with a high environmental cost: SF₆ is one of the most potent greenhouse gases known, with a global warming potential thousands of times greater than CO₂.

HD Hyundai Electric’s answer is the Vacuum Interrupter Dry Air Type GIS. Instead of relying on SF₆, it uses vacuum arc quenching and dry air insulation. The result is a system that delivers high shutdown reliability with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 0. In other words, it does the job without harming the planet.

This installation will be the first Dry Air Type SF₆-Free GIS applied to East Denmark’s power grid, a milestone that reflects the region’s commitment to decarbonization. Experts have already praised Hyundai’s solution for its operational stability, reliability, and extensive test data, making it a trusted choice for utilities looking to modernize responsibly.

Denmark’s Path to a Cleaner Grid:

The Trollesgård substation upgrade is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026. The contract also includes an option for additional GIS supply, suggesting that this partnership could grow in the years ahead.

Denmark is not alone in embracing Hyundai’s technology. Similar projects have already been completed in Sweden and Finland, and now Denmark joins the list of countries adopting SF₆-Free GIS. Together, these efforts highlight a broader shift across Northern Europe toward cleaner, smarter, and more resilient energy systems.

 A Vision Beyond Borders:

This project is part of HD Hyundai Electric’s wider Greentric brand vision, which focuses on eco-friendly products designed to lead the transition away from fossil fuels. By proving its technology in multiple European markets, the company is positioning itself as a global partner in the fight against climate change.

The Denmark order is more than a technical achievement—it’s a symbol of how innovation and sustainability can work hand in hand. As nations race to meet climate targets, Hyundai’s SF₆-Free GIS offers a practical, tested solution that reduces emissions without compromising reliability.

 Looking Ahead:

Energy transitions are rarely simple, but they are essential. The Trollesgård substation project shows what’s possible when utilities, governments, and technology providers align around a common goal: building a grid that is both powerful and sustainable.

HD Hyundai Electric’s work in Denmark is not just about replacing a harmful gas—it’s about redefining the future of power grids worldwide. With each project, the company is helping to write a new chapter in the story of global decarbonization, one that blends engineering excellence with environmental responsibility.
